45 students, many other guests attend 50 at Wesley Night

Fifty was the goal, and with 45 students and many other guests, the number of people gathered for Wesley's Wednesday-night dinner and worship this week surpassed the mark.

Students enjoyed a meal prepared and served by the men's group of Tempe First United Methodist Church, and Dr. Dave Summers, the senior pastor of Tempe First, joined the students for dinner.

Bishop Minerva CarcaƱo, who leads the United Methodist Church's Desert Southwest Annual Conference, also stopped by for dinner after a meeting she attended at the church.

And there were many new faces among the 45 students in attendance. Many current Wesley students bringing friends to the gathering, which was filled with the music of Guitar Hero, the greatest hits of Journey and also hymns of worship.

After dinner and a raffle, the students entered a time of worship. Wesley Director Rev. Rob Rynders read the story of the burning bush from Exodus and invited students to share with each other how they've heard God speaking to them.

Pastor Rob's three-part series on "things that talk in the Bible... that aren't human" resumes in two weeks, on Nov. 28.

Next Wednesday, Nov. 21, Wesley takes a break from its usual routine and encourages students to attend Tempe's interfaith Thanksgiving service, which will be held at Tempe First UMC at 7 p.m.
